Preliminary Task Evaluation

Describe the set brief for the Preliminary Task. What was it that you were asked to create? Use the correct media specific vocabulary and show that you understand the meaning of these terms.
For the Preliminary Task we have to illustrate the processes of pre-production, production and post-production that will be required. We had to create a scene between two people, where one person is sitting down and another opens a door and there should be a few lines of dialogue. It is a continuity task which means that it must have match on action, shot reverse shot, and the 180-degree rule.

Explain everything that you did leading up to the point when you started filming (pre-production). Discuss how this process helped to prepare you for filming.

Before we started filming, we created a 12 shot storyboard. This helped us visualise our scene before we filmed it. We also took pictures of the locations and angles which helped us to make our filming easier so we knew where each shot was going to be taken and the angle of it. Then we had to cast our 2 characters for the scene so we chose me and Taylor for the role. I played the role of Ellie and Taylor played the part of Jenny.

Describe the filming process itself (production). How did this go?

As I had to throw a cup of coffee over Taylor we could only film this bit part once. We had Hannah filming me and Carmen filming Taylor but filmed so you could only see me and Taylor. We managed to get a range of different shots in the scene such as establishing shot, mid shot and a close up. we used the 180 degree rule which led to us being able to use shot reverse shot and made the scene continuous.

Explain the editing stage for your Preliminary Task (post-production). This should include how you applied new skills you have learnt.

I learnt how to use Adobe Premiere Pro which i would he using to edit the scene. I learnt how to cut the short videos i made so i could match on action so the scene would be continuous. I also learnt how to just drag the video down so there was none of the background noises and replace it with some music. So you could still hear the dialogue when the music was playing, i learnt how to make the music quieter.

Evaluate your finished Preliminary Task. How well does it meet the expectations of your set brief? Which parts of it do you think are particularly strong? Where are the weaknesses? What can you identify as being an area fro development when it comes to producing your main task?

We didn't meet the expectations of the set brief and we didn't manage to get match on action in part of the scene. I am walking through the corridor with my sleeves down, walk through the door with my sleeves up and go to my seat with my sleeves down but other than that we met the set brief. I think we didn't mess up with the 180 degree rule as are shot reverse shot is right and our scene continues apart from the sleeves. When we produce our main task I think we should look over are videos before we come to edit it them so we can match on action.
